Departmental Studentships

In 2009 the Department will offer up to 20 studentships ($1000 each) to Research Training Masters and Honours/PGDip students. The studentships will be awarded mid-year on a competitive basis to full-time students who enroll solely in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics and who have not been awarded any major scholarship (namely $5000 or above). Necessary conditions for being considered for the award of the studentship are successful completion of the first semester and continuing enrollment. Successful completion of the first semester is defined as having completed at least three coursework subjects with an average of at least 65% (for MSc and Honours students) or 50% (for PGDip students).

Prizes

The Department also awards the following prizes and scholarship for which Honours students are eligible:
Wyselaskie Scholarship: awarded to the best Honours student in Mathematics and Statistics.
Dwight's Prize: awarded to the best Honours student in Statistics.
Urquhart Prize: awarded to the student with the best overall performance in Mathematics in their honours year.
Nanson/Wilson Prizes: awarded to best original memoir by a student within seven years of first enrollment.

Maurice Belz Scholarships

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics offers up to three scholarships valued at $7000 each, to students enrolled or intending to enrol in The University of Melbournes Honours Degree or research training program in the Master of Science (commencing from 2009) specialising in Statistics & undertaking a research project in one of the areas on Applied Statistics, Applied Probability and Stochastic Processes or Operations Research.
