Real World Maths in Action
Every two years, the Department of Mathematics and Statistics holds a one-day maths fair for Year 11 and 12 students and their teachers. The program is designed to both engage as well as inform. The two key events are: Mathematicians Exposed! and the Mathematics in Industry and Technology (MIT) Challenge. The main objectives of the fair are:
- To promote the importance and broad applications of mathematics and problem solving skills
- To raise awareness of career opportunities for mathematics and statistics graduates.
STAMPS is the Statistics and Mathematics Postgraduate Society set up to sustain a sense of community amongst postgrads in our school.
Statistical Consulting Centre
The Department of Mathematics and Statistics has a major commitment to providing a quality consulting service through the Statistical Consulting Centre. This Centre, which is largely self-supporting, has been running since 1984.
The University of Melbourne - School Mathematics Competition
This competition has been running for over 30 years. It is organised by members of the Department of Mathematics & Statistics at this University. The competition is open to students at all secondary schools in Victoria.
