A Becker-Döring type model for oscillatory aggregation kinetics in prion dynamics (MCB)
Recent Static Light Scattering (SLS) measurements associated to the polymerisation and depolymerisation dynamics of prion diseases show a transient oscillatory behaviour, which necessitates the formulation of a new type of coagulation-fragmentation models. We propose a novel bi-monomeric nonlinear Becker-Döring model, which features intrinsic oscillatory behaviour capable of describing the SLS measurements. Our analysis exemplifies a central oscillation mechanism in terms of a simplest two polymer model variant and shows several links to generalised Lotka-Volterra systems.
